Foster Homes Needed
MinPinHaven Rescue could use more foster homes to help us protect the seemingly never ending parade of dogs in need. We are currently busting at the seems of our capacity and that means fewer dogs are saved each month. If you know someone that can commit to fostering any of our dogs it will open up a spot to save another. Fostering is not a commitment to take lightly. While vet and medical costs are covered by MinPin-Haven, time, training, and day to day caring for these sweet dogs does take time. However, you get ten times the love back from them and it is a rewarding experience saving these lives.
As of June 24th we have refused to take into rescue 19 minpins needing to be saved from the hot streets of Phoenix.  Some were found as strays, some were found dehydrated and in dire need of food and water, some are losing their homes due to families losing their homes.  Fostering any dog brings great rewards when you know that little life is safe because you gave them a place that is safe and cool to stay until we can find a forever home.
WHO ARE WE?
MinPinHaven Rescue, Inc. PO Box 5878, Glendale AZ 85312, is a 501(c)(3)
public charity, non-profit no kill rescue group located in the Phoenix and Sierra
Vista, Arizona areas. We are an all-volunteer rescue group dedicated to caring
for miniature pinschers and other small breed dogs who find themselves
searching for new forever families due to abandonment, escapes from their
safe yards or other life threatening events. The MinPinHaven residents stay in
foster homes until either their forever home is found or they go to Rainbow
Bridge due to serious illnesses. One of the requirements of the adoption
process is a home visit and meeting the entire new adoptive family. Since we
can’t travel to the rest of the US to do home visits, our dogs are adopted only
in Arizona - we do not ship dogs to their new homes.

Our Mission
MinPinHaven specializes in rescuing Miniature Pinschers (aka King of Toys, Houdini dogs, Mini
Pins and Min Pins.) MinPinHaven will also rescue and foster other pure and mixed breed small
to medium sized dogs until their forever home is found, or until they leave this world for
Rainbow Bridge as MinPinHaven is a no kill shelter - a safe Haven for its residents.
MinPinHaven’s primary goals are:
1. Contribute to ending euthanasia of adoptable pets through partnerships with Maricopa
County Animal Care and Control, the Arizona Humane Society and any other public or
private entity;
2. organize educational gatherings on topics such as choosing the right breed for their
family, the responsibilities and commitment involved with responsible pet ownership,
how to positively change unwanted behavior; the importance of spay/neuter; and
working to help families keep their pets through life altering and medical events;
3. support smaller rescue groups by providing venues for quarantine of contagious
animals, meeting space for fundraising events, educational presentations on topics of
current importance by area veterinary, research or alternative care experts, and
4. organize annual fundraisers to provide the rescue community and rescue support
services a forum to get together with the general human and animal public for a day of
getting to know each other.
ADOPTION PROCESS

Thank you for your interest in rescuing a Miniature Pinscher and providing a forever home to one of these wonderful dogs. The following information is intended to help you understand the adoption process and how that process works.

Under the "Online Forms" tab you will find an Adoption Application, a copy of the Adoption Contract, an Owner Give Up Form (if you need to find another home for your MinPin), and a Volunteer Application (should you like to Volunteer to help MinPinHaven help the dogs in our care).
Once you have completed the Adoption Application (and given it the once over to check the accuracy of your phone numbers, email address, vet name and contact information, etc.), written down which dog(s) you are interested in meeting, and hit the submit button, we will receive your application. Please also contact your vet and personal references and tell them you are working on adopting a rescue MinPin and they should expect a call from Carolyn or Pat from MinPinHaven Rescue and it is okay to speak with us.
We will check your personal and vet references (and your landlord should you rent) and then contact you to make an appointment to do a home visit with the dogs you are interested in meeting. We come at a convenient time for your entire family to be present so the dog(s) get to meet everyone they will live with.
If you like one of the dogs and the dog likes your family, we will complete the adoption process at that time (payment in full of the adoption fees and signing the contract), and your new family member will move in at that time.

Dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They are up to date on their shots, including bordatella (kennel cough) shot, they are micro chipped and have been heartworm tested and are on monthly heartworm preventative medication. You will receive copies of all their paperwork - from Maricopa County Animal Care and Control or the Humane Society along with any private vet care they may have received while in our care. Dogs usually range from $200 and up depending on the veterinary care they needed prior to being adopted.
Why can’t I adopt a dog from MinPinHaven Rescue if I have not spayed or neutered the other dogs that live in my home? ...more info
OWNER GIVE UP

Please complete the Owner Surrender form if you need to permanently give up your MinPin for adoption. Please provide as much vet history as possible for your minpin so the new family will and their vet will have as complete a history to care for their new family member.

Thank You
A Letter from a Shelter Manager (from a Phoenix Craigslist posting, August 2009)

I think our society needs a huge "wake-up" call. As a shelter manager, I am going to share a little insight with you…a view from the inside, if you will.

First off, I think that all breeders/sellers should be made to work in the "back" of an animal shelter for just one day. Maybe if you saw the life drain from a few sad, lost, confused eyes, you would change your mind about breeding and selling to people you don't even know. That puppy you just sold will most likely end up in my shelter when it's not a cute little puppy anymore. How does it make you feel to know that there's about a 90% chance that dogs dumped at shelters will never walk out alive? Purebred or not! About half of all of the dogs that are "owner surrenders" or
"strays" that come into my shelter are purebred dogs.

Here are the most common excuses I hear:

(1) “We are moving and we can't take our dog (or cat)."  Really? You’re moving to a place that doesn’t allow pets? Why did you choose that place instead of  a pet friendly home?

(2) "The dog got bigger than we thought it would."  How big did you think a German Shepherd would get?

(3) "We don't have time for her." Really? I work a 10-12 hour day and still have time for my six dogs!

(4) "She's tearing up our yard." How about making her a part of your family? How about some obedience training & exercise?

(5) "We just don't want to have to stress about finding a place for her. We know she'll get adopted; she's a good dog."  Odds are your pet won't get adopted. And how stressful do you think it is to be dumped in a shelter? Well, let me tell you, your pet has 72 hours to find a new family from the moment you drop it off - sometimes a little longer if the shelter isn't full and your dog manages to stay completely healthy. If it
sniffles, it dies.

Your pet will be confined to a small run/kennel in a room with about 25 other barking or crying animals. It will have to relieve itself where it eats and sleeps. It will be depressed and it will cry constantly for the family that abandoned it. If your pet is lucky, I will have enough volunteers in that
day to take him/her for a walk. If I don't, your pet won't get any attention besides having a bowl of food slid under the kennel door and the waste sprayed out of its pen with a high-powered hose.

If your dog is big, black or any of the "Bully" breeds (pit bull, rottie, mastiff, etc) it was pretty much dead when you walked it through the front door. Those dogs just don't get adopted. It doesn't matter how 'sweet' or 'well behaved' they are.

If your dog doesn't get adopted within 72 hours and the shelter is full, it will be destroyed. If the shelter isn't full and your dog is good enough, and it’s a desirable enough breed, it may get a stay of execution, but not for long
WHO YOUR DONATIONS HELP
Your donations help any residents at MinPinHaven with shots, spay/neuter, micro chips, flea/tick medication, etc. or comfort items like soft bedding, or healthy treats.
If you would like to support a new resident at MinPinHaven with a spay/neuter, all their shots, micro chip, heartworm test, monthly heartworm preventative medication and flea/tick preventative, the cost is $145.
